The objectives and tasks of the course

 

 

The course “Private international law” is intended for the forth year students of the Department of International Relations of Kyiv International University.

The main objective of the given course is to form a broad juridical outlook in producing estimations of the state-legal phenomena.

The offered methodological form a complex document reflecting the main directions and the scope of full-time students work of the Department of International Relations of KIU on the subject “Private international law”.

In spite of the list of literature and questions proposed to each lesson, the students should use creative approach to master the subject, analyze different approaches in law understanding, formulate and ground their own views of the problem.

The peculiarity of this program is to achieve students’ mastering the main notions of this subject in English.

It teaches students to orient in English-language sources and broadens their outlook.

At the same time the students should pay attention to additional thources, monographic and periodical publications.

 

After studying of the course students should know:

- significance of private international law and its place among other branches of law;

- notion, subjects, system and sources of private international law;

- methods of legal regulation in private international law;

- the main branches and institutes of private international law;

- basic contemporary problems of the theory and practice of private international law that appear in domestic legislation.

 

After studying of the course students should be able:

- to analyze international documents in the field of private international law;

- to define choice-of-law norms and correctly apply choice-of-law principles;

- to compare domestic means of choice-of-law problems decisions with general standards of private international law;

- to suggest the ways of domestic private international law improvement;

- to decide practical legal disputes that appear in legal relations “with foreign elements”.
