Introduction to GraphsIn Semester 2, you will be asked to write about graphs. Your essays should be 150 words long. You will have 30 minutes for each essay, and you should be writing at band 5.75 up to including Progress Test 1 and band 6.0 after that. There are different types of graphs:
Up to the first progress test we will look at pie charts, tables and bar charts. After the first progress test we will be looking at these graphs plus line graphs. Graphs supply us with information in the form of a diagram. It is your job to work out what the graph is about and then write about it. Understanding and interpreting the graph correctly is probably the most important part of the task. You should use 3 paragraphs: Paragraph 1: the introduction You will tell the reader what the graph is about. Your introduction will tell the reader a) what sort of graph it is (line graph, bar chart, pie chart or table) b) what the graph is about. Paragraph 2: the body This is the body. It will contain interesting and relevant information from the graph. It will make comparisons where necessary. Paragraph 3: the conclusion This will contain the overall picture of the graph. Write at least 2 sentences. Make sure your essay is well-balanced. The first paragraph should be around 25 words, the body around 100 words and the conclusion about 25. You must make sure you reach a minimum of 136 words or you will lose 1/4 band.
