Land Development Banks

Land development banks are also known as agricultural banks because these are formed to finance agricultural sector. They also help in land development.

Merchant Bank is a financial institution which provides capital to companies in the form of share ownership instead of loans. A merchant bank also provides advisory on corporate matters to the firms they lend to. In the United Kingdom, the term "merchant bank" refers to an investment bank.

Exchange Banks

These banks are mainly concerned with financing foreign trade.

Various functions of exchange banks are the following: remitting money from one country to another country, discounting of foreign bills, buying and selling gold and silver, and helping import and export trade.

Consumers Banks

Consumers bank is a new addition to the existing type of banks. Such banks are usually found only in advanced countries like the USA and Germany. The main objective of this bank is to give loans to consumers for purchase of the durables like motor cars, television sets, washing machines, furniture, etc.

Offshore banks

Banks which are located in countries with low taxation and regulation. Many offshore banks are essentially private banks.
