The Present Perfect Continuous Tense.




Exercise 1. Answer the questions according to the pattern.

What’s Bill doing at the moment? (to read a book)

Future-in-the Past Indefinite; Future-in-the Past Continuous; Future-in-the Past Perfect

Exercise 1. Write the following sentences in the Past Tense.

1. I am afraid I shall be late. 2. Do you think we shall pick all the apples in three days? 3. He hopes you will often visit him. 4. They expect he will be at home in a few days. 5. Are you afraid he won’t be in time? 6. She promises that she will finish the work in a week.

 

Exercise 2. Rewrite the sentences in Future-in-the Past Indefinite; Future-in-the Past Continuous; Future-in-the Past Perfect, using the following expressions: I supposed; he believed; she was sure; I heard; she said; he understood; the letter said; she imagined.

My brother will be sleeping.

I supposed that my brother would be sleeping.

Пасивний стан (Passive Voice) часів Indefinite, Continuous, Perfect.

В англійській мові є два стани: активний і пасивний. Коли підмет є особою чи предметом, що виконує дію, дієслово вживається у формі активного стану:

I asked him. – Я запитав його.

Коли підмет є особою чи предметом, що підлягає дії збоку особи чи предмета, дієслово вживається у формі пасивного стану:

I was asked. – Мене запитали.

Як утворюється? Пасивний стан утворюється за допомогою дієслова to be у відповідному часі, особі, числі та дієприкметника минулого часу смислового дієслова:

The bridge was built in 2003.

Стверджувальна форма Питальна форма Заперечна форма
The bridge was built in 2003. Was the bridge built in 2003? The bridge was not (wasn’t) built in 2003.

 

Вживання пасивного стану дієслова to give у різних часових формах.

Слід зазначити, що перехідні дієслова можуть вживатися як у активному, так і пасивному стані. Деякі неперехідні дієслова можуть теж вживатися у пасивному стані. (This music is often listened to)

Перехідні дієслова, які приймають два додатки, можуть утворювати пасивний стан двома шляхами, наприклад:

They showed me a picture. 1. A picture was shown to me.

Exercise 8. Put the sentences into the Passive Voice. Mind the place of prepositions:

The doctor was sent. – Доктора послали.

The doctor was sent for. – За доктором послали.

We often speak about her. – Ми часто говоримo про неї.

Exercise 11. Put the sentences into the Passive Voice.

Passive Continuous Tenses

 

а) Замість форми Future Continuous, яка відсутня в Passive Voice, використовується Future Indefinite; Come at 5 o’clock. The plan will be discussed at that time. Приходьте о 5 годині. В цей час будуть обговорювати ваш план.
