ЗАДАНИЯ

1.1. Найдите транскрипцию приведённых ниже слов в англо-русском словаре. Произнесите слова в соответствии с транскрипцией (см. Приложение1). Прослушайте слова (см. Введение.п. 2). (Find a transcription of the following words in the English-Russian dictionary. Say the words according to the transcription (see Application1). Listen to the words (see Introduction. item2.)

1.2. Найдите в тексте «AERIAL» указанные в задании 1.1. слова. Запишите слова в контексте (см. Введение. п.1). (Find words pointed in the task 1.1. in the text «AERIAL». Write down the words in a context (see Introduction. item1.)

AERIAL

The aerial is one of the essential parts of any transmission and reception system. Its purpose at the transmitter is to send electromagnetic energy into space, and at the receiver — to absorb energy from the travelling electromagnetic wave produced from the transmitter aerial.

An aerial is formed by a wire or a metal conductor. As we know, an aerial must be insulated from the ground and may occupy vertical or horizontal position.

When electric oscillations are produced in the aerial, it starts radiating radiowaves which travel in different directions.

Radio waves reach the aerial of a receiver and induce in it oscillations of the same frequency as those in the aerial of the transmitter. The oscillations produced in the aerial are weak since it receives only a small part of energy radiated by the transmitter. But the oscillations are amplified in case an oscillatory circuit is connected to the aerial circuit. Its coil and capacitor should be selected so that the circuit is tuned to the transmitter. Oscillations will beamplified in the receiving oscillator circuit because of the resonance. Thereceiving circuit is tuned to the frequency of the transmitter by means of

capacitor.

There are millions of transmitting stations in the world nowadays. They operating simultaneously, but the waves they radiate differ in frequency. By tuning a radio set to a definite frequency one is able to receive the necessary station.
