Note: The Bornless Ritual from the Goetia which is found in the 1st Printing on pg.661 was

omitted in the 2nd Printing. The following pieces were also added into the 2nd printing: Liber

Librae sub figura XXX (pg.668), Liber DCXXXIII, de Thaumaturgia (pg.671), Liber Testis

Testinudinis (pg.673) and Notes on the Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram (pg.690). Also in the first

edition there is a piece listed in the Contents, First Sketch of a Qabalistic Key to Liber AL

(pg.445) which is 'seemingly' omitted in the second printing but this is an incorrect assumption. In

both editions it is listed under 'Table of Figures' as Fig.21 but in the 2nd edition it is omitted from

the Contents. Also, this piece is correctly titled A FEW INDICATIONS FOR THE STUDENT OF THE LINE TO BE ADOPTED IN HIS ELUCIDATION OF LIBER AL.

Note: Some sources mention a Weyman edition published in the US in 1972 but this is merely a

Castle Books edition with a distributor sticker (Weyman) on the inside title page.

1. - Volume 1 of Magick in Theory & Practice (1929) begins counting page i with a page which has " Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. " Then, counting off the pages, on page iii is the main title page - MAGICK | IN THEORY AND | PRACTICE | BY | THE MASTER THERION | (being part III of Book 4) below which is a square decorative symbol with no esoteric significance. The upright lines here represent new line. Italics are italic in original. Latin

numbers in brackets are notional and not printed. On page v we find a full title page for The Hymn to Pan, followed by a blank page and then the actual poem begins on page vii. The Introduction also has a full title page followed by a blank page, or pgs xi & xii. The Intro itself begins on page xiii. There is no page which depicts the Signs of the Degrees. The Contents begins on xxxi and ends on pg. xxxiv.... Of note: the "Signs of the Grades" page was not bound into the book but

was loose in part 4.

2. - The Subscribers edition (1929) begins counting page i with a page which has "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law." Then, counting off the pages, on page iii is the main title page with a triangular symbol under the authors name. The Contents begins on xxxi and ends on pg. xxxiv.

3. - The Castle edition (1965) also begins counting page i with the page which has "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law" just like the Subscriber's edition. It too has almost the same identical title page on page iii with the triangular symbol under the authors name. However, it eliminates the full title page for The Hymn to Pan, followed by a blank page and thus the actual poem on page v. The full title page for the Introduction and the blank page are also eliminated in this edition. However, the original page depicting the Signs of the Degrees which is found in Volume One of the original printing (of the four) is now added into this edition on pg.viii. The Intro itself begins on page ix. The Contents are now abridged to a single page, pg.xxvii.

4. - The Gordon Press edition (1974) is internally the same as the Castle edition. We say this because facing the title page is printed the blurb from the dust jacket of the original Castle edition which started off saying, "Aleister Crowley, known to many... long sought-after work." On the bottom of the title page it has - "Gordon Press logo: a circle of sixteen five pointed stars each with one point facing outward and containing the capital letters GP | GORDON PRESS | NEW

YORK | 1974"

5. - The Dover edition (1976) begins by eliminating "Do what thou wilt..." and instead adds "Magick in Theory and Practice" on page i. This edition redesigns the main title page on page iii and eliminates the triangular symbol under the authors name. Like the Castle edition it also eliminates the full title page for The Hymn to Pan, followed by a blank page and thus the poem begins on page v. The full title page for the Introduction and the blank page as found in the

Subscriber's edition are also eliminated in this edition. However, like the Castle edition the original page depicting the Signs of the Degrees found in Volume One of the original printing (of the four) is now added in on pg.viii. The Intro itself also begins on page ix. The Contents are also abridged to one page, pg.xxvii.

6. - The Peter Smith edition!979) is internally the same as the Dover Press edition and even includes ads for other Dover books in back.he indication that it is a Peter Smith edition is found on the cover at the foot of the spine, lettered in black. On the reverse of the title page is a statement to the effect that it's an unabridged and unaltered republication of the London 1929 edition. It is not.
