Exercise 4. Find out English equivalents of the sentences from the text.




v От самых примитивных начал, люди использовали древесину для выживания и улучшения качества жизни.

v Топливо для обогрева и приготовления пищи по-прежнему является крупнейшим употреблением древесного волокна.

v В качестве сырья, древесина не имеет себе равных.

v На соотношении прочности к весу, древесина прочнее стали.

Past Continuous Present Continuous Future Continuous
Use the Past Continuous to express an action, which was in progress at the exact time in the past. Example: I was writing the letter at 5 o’clock yesterday. WAS/WERE+VERB+ING Use the Present Continuous to express an action happening at the moment of speech. Example: I am writing. TO BE +VERB + ING Use the Future Continuous to express an action, which will be in progress at the specific time in the future. Example: You will be sleeping at that time. WILL BE + VERB + ING
I was sleeping when you called me. You were taking a bath. He/She/It was having a supper. We were doing a home task. They were swimming. I am sitting now. You are writing at this moment. He/she/it is eating. We are getting up. They are watching TV now. I will be drinking my tea. You will be reading your book. He/She/It will be waiting for me. We will be playing the piano. They will be cooking.
+ The teacher was saying goodbye. -The teacher wasn’t saying goodbye. ? Was the teacher saying goodbye? Yes, she was. / No, she wasn’t. + Martha is going to work. -Martha isn’t going to work. ? Is Martha going to work? Yes, she is. / No, she isn’t. + Susan will be resting. -Susan won’t be resting. ? Will Susan be resting? Yes, she will. / No, she won’t.
