These instructions describe the handling and use of the EKATO agitator, i.e.

- Transportation

- Storage

- Assembly

- Start-up

- Maintenance

- Troubleshooting

- Overhaul

and

- Disposal.

These instructions do not describe the control system of the agitator, nor do they deal with process matters. For information on these topics please refer to the documentation provided by the system supplier, plant contractor or operator.

CAUTION
Illustrations in these instructions are usually symbolic, i.e. they do not reveal the exact details of the agitator described.   For the components to be used, see the parts list (→ chapter 8), the dimensional sheet (→ chapter 1) or the drawings (when ordered, → chapters 1 or 8).

These instructions must be read and understood by every person who is to install, maintain or repair the agitator. The same applies to the instructions provided by all sub-suppliers (chapter 9) In addition to these instructions and the mandatory rules and regulations for accident prevention applicable to the country and place of use of the equipment, the generally recognized technical guidelines for safe and proper working conditions and procedures must also be complied with when handling or working with the agitator. This includes the use of personal protective equipment such as helmets, industrial footwear, goggles and gloves. Specific safety measures must be taken before entering a vessel that has been used to process toxic or corrosive products (protective clothing, breathing apparatus). 3.3 Intended Use and Foreseeable Misuse The agitator is designed solely for the mixing task as described in the specification (chapter 1). This includes the specified product/process data (viscosity, density, temperature, pressure). The agitator must only be operated in accordance with the terms of the specification. All special conditions required in the specification (→ chapter 1) must be specifically complied with

Any deviation will be considered to be unintended use and foreseeable misuse. EKATO disclaims all responsibility for any damage resulting from this.

WARNING
The agitator must be operated in accordance with all relevant regulations, directives, statutory requirements, etc. in order to prevent its incorrect use.

The agitator has been manufactured to a state-of-the-art design and in compliance with internationally recognized safety rules. As supplier of the agitator without a control system, however, EKATO has no influence on the safe design of the control system and the access to the vessel. EKATO therefore prohibits the start-up of the agitator if it is not guaranteed that the plant complies with the requirements of the European Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC), the Equipment and Protective systems intended for use in a potentially Explosive Atmospheres "Atex" Directive (94/9/EC) and, if applicable, the European Pressure Equipment Directive (97/23/EC) and that the applicable local laws and regulations for the safe operation of plants and machinery are being complied with.

In particular, the system shall provide means that prevent an unintended start-up and any contact with moving parts. Protective devices must be applied when hot surfaces are in "accessible areas" (i.e. accessible without aids such as ladders). However, system cooling must not be impeded by these.

The agitator shall only be started when all intended protective grids and covers are installed.

Modifications, extensions or alterations shall be carried out only after full approval by EKATO.

Intended use also includes the observation of all instructions (including the instructions of subsuppliers, chapter 9) and maintenance regulations as well as the immediate remedy of any malfunctioning and defects, the agitator otherwise being shut down until the problems are rectified.

All spare parts must comply with the requirements specified by EKATO and must be supplied or released by EKATO.

Only by using genuine EKATO spare parts can the ongoing validity of the Manufacturer’s Declarations, any Declaration of Conformity and guarantees be ensured.

The ATEX certification (when applicable) in accordance with 94/9/EC ceases to be valid if modifications not authorized by EKATO are made or spare parts not released by EKATO are used.

Residual Hazards

There are residual hazards that cannot be fully removed by design alone. Certain actions could lead to damage and hence long-term adverse effects on safety.

For these cases these instructions can include the following safety notices:

DANGER
Disregarding this safety instruction will inevitably result in fatal accidents
DANGER
Disregarding this safety instruction WILL inevitably result in severe injuries or even fatal accidents.
WARNING
Disregarding this safety instruction COULD result in severe injuries or even fatal accidents.
CAUTION
Disregarding this safety instruction MAY result in material damage or minor injuries.

Additional important instructions on protection from explosions especially for ATEX agitators. This agitators are marked specially and are delivered with a Declaration of Conformity

Observe these instructions and comply with the safety rules at all times!
