Troubleshooting Chart




NOTE: The following chart may refer to components which are not part of your agitator. Variants are indicated in italics.

NOTE: In any case EKATO shall be informed about any trouble with the agitator

Indication Possible cause Remedy
Strange noise from outside the vessel Foreign body in the fan wheel Remove the foreign body Replace the fan wheel, when damaged
Lack of lubrication in a bearing Replace the bearing
Incorrect oil level in gear/geared motor or ancillary equipment Fill oil to the proper level; search for leakage where applicable
Incorrect oil quality Check that the correct oil quality has been used If not, empty, clean and refill with correct oil
Worn or damaged parts Check bearings and gears for wear
In case of excessive wear: search for the cause and remedy, then repair/replace as necessary
V-belts slips Adjust to prescribed belt tension
Strange noise inside the vessel Components inside the vessel (e.g. impeller, baffle plates, bolts) have loosened Check the interior of the vessel

Vibrations/oscillations Agitator shaft rotates at critical speed, caused by incorrect impeller placement Position the impeller(s) on the shaft according to the specification (→ chapter 1)
Unauthorized alteration of speed Adjust speed acc. to the specification (→ chapter 1)
Bearing damage Replace bearings
Crustation of product Remove crustations
Bushing of the steady bearing worn Replace the bushings
Loose agitator components Tighten bolts and nuts with the prescribed torque values
Agitator shaft loosens Agitator shaft or bearing shaft bends or breaks Threaded agitator shaft: Incorrect direction of rotation Set direction of rotation acc. to arrow
Flange coupling: overstretched or failed bolts Insert new bolts and secure
Agitator shaft under lateral tension caused 公/ the steady bearing Adjust the steady bearing to the free-hanging agitator shaft
Agitator support/ vessel flange inclination exceeds permissible 0.2° Level agitator support/vessel flange
Insufficient agitation Product data deviates from specification Consult EKATO
Improper positioning of impellers (pumping direction, altitude) Position impellers acc. to specification or dimensional sheet (→ chapter 1)
Variable drive not adjusted to the correct speed Adjust to the specified speed
Baffle plates not acc. to specification (→ chapter 1) Rectify baffle plate installation acc. to specification (→ chapter 1)
Motor switched off by overload protection Overload due to changed product data Consultation of EKATO
Overload due to incorrect speed Adjust to the specified speed
Overload due to incorrect impellers Install impeller type, quantity, number of blades and diameter acc. to specification (→ chapter 1)
Overload due to crustation, caused by too large particles Consult EKATO w.r.t. product data
Overload due to overtightened stuffing box Release the gland and tighten again, if necessary overhaul (→ section 7.2)
Excessive heating of gear Lack of oil Refill oil
Lack of cooling water Check cooling water supply
Incorrect oil quality Empty, clean and refill with correct oil
Bearing damage Replace bearings

Mechanical seal: Falling buffer liquid level or gas bubbles in the buffer liquid Seal rings worn or broken O-rings damaged Replace parts (→ seal manufacturer instructions chapter 9)
Tubing connections untighten or damaged Tighten the connections or repair
Gear leaks Shaft seal rings worn Replace
Too high oil level Drain oil to the correct level
Drive rotates, agitator does not Defective coupling (plastic drive pins) Repair coupling
Friction rings/friction cone worn Replace parts
V-belts slips Adjust to prescribed belt tension
Destroyed gear wheels Repair gear
Stuffing box overtightened Release, retighten, replace packing if necessary   Check for successive damage (failed coupling parts, worn friction elements
Impellers block due to crustation Remedy the cause (process?)
Check transmitting parts, shafts and impellers for damage
